Five years ago today, in 2003, runaway Texas Democrats boarded two buses and returned home after a self-imposed weeklong exile in Oklahoma that succeeded in killing a redistricting bill they opposed, but just temporarily. After several more attempts, the controversial congressional re-map was approved in time for the 2004 election.
