(May 16, 2008)--A brigade of the Army's 82nd Airborne Division will return to Fort Bragg from duty in Iraq three months earlier than scheduled, division officials said Friday.

Division spokesman Maj. Tom Earnhardt told The Associated Press the division's 1st Brigade will leave Iraq in mid-July and will be replaced by the 4th Brigade of the 1st Cavalry Division, based at Fort Hood.

The 1st Brigade deployed last year and wasn't expected to return until September.

The unit of 3,500 paratroopers is based at Talill Air Base in southern Iraq, but operates all over the country protecting convoys along the roads from Kuwait and Jordan into Baghdad.
