Day Care Center Faces Fines For Cramming Kids In Van Save Email Print

A | A | A

(May 16, 2008)—A daycare center in Jacksonville, Fla. that crammed 38 children into a van designed to seat 15 is facing heavy fines.

It happened as the children were returned to the center after a trip to a Chuck E. Cheese restaurant.

Florida Department of Children and Families spokesman John Harrell says 4-year-olds were sitting on other children’s laps while others stood on the floor between the seats and in other aeas of the van.

A restaurant employee called police after watching center workers pack the van.

One of the drivers only had a learner’s permit.

Harrell says the day care center is not yet facing any criminal charges, but they are still investigating.

That is crazy...i work at a daycare and if we have a large group like that we split them up and take them on different days. With that many kids why dont they have more than one van?? Besides if they were four..they are supposed to be in booster seats. I think that the teachers who did this should be fired and the director needs to be also for allowing them to put those kids in the van like that. What whould they have done if they had gotten into a wreck??? If they were in TX they would have been shut down that day!!!! Way to go pizza worker for callin it in!!!!! YOU just saved 38 kids' life!!!!

Why aren't the facing criminal charges? This daycare obviously doesn't care about children's safety!

They are very lucky they got stopped. If they had had an accident no telling how many would have been hurt. What kind of person would do that?
