(May 16, 2008)—Investigators think the man who robbed the Wells Fargo Bank Wednesday in Marquez in Leon County is linked to dozens of other bank hold-ups in the area.
The robber, who was armed with a handgun, escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash.
He about 50, white and has a heavy build.
In a photo released by the FBI, he has a gray beard, but investigators say it could be a disguise.
Investigators think he’s the same man responsible for robberies at banks along Interstate 35.
He resembles the man who robbed the Compass Bank at 920 N. Main St. in Salado in January.
In that hold-up, the robber produced a handgun, demanded cash and then forced an employee and a customer into the bank’s vault.
He ordered them to stay there for 20 minutes, but after about 10 minutes, they emerged and called 911 to report the robbery.
He evidently escaped in a grey midsized car, but his direction of travel was reportedly not known.
The FBI is offering a $20,000 reward for information in the most recent robbery.
