(May 16, 2008)--Federal health authorities have told a Pasadena company to close and recall all of its dried smoked catfish steaks and other smoked seafood dating back to June 2007.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says Hope Food Supply failed to develop safety standards, leading to a risk of bacteria contamination in its products.
The FDA says there have been no reported illnesses.
The FDA says Hope Food Supply's products were distributed nationwide.
The FDA directed the company this week to close until it has implemented the right plan to identify all food safety hazards and preventive measures to control risks.
"We simply will not allow a company to put the public's health at risk by not implementing adequate procedures and plans to produce safe food," said Margaret O'K. Glavin, associate commissioner for regulatory affairs.
"The FDA will take action against companies and against their executives who violate the law and endanger public health."
Hope Food Supply has declined comment.
