Another Boat Sinks On The Brazos Save Email Print

(May 19, 2008)—As The new owners of the Brazos Belle work to move the waterlogged river boat upriver to make repairs, another Brazos River Excursion boat sank Monday.

The Spirt of the Rivers sternwheeler docked at the Lake Brazos Steakhouse sank Monday morning after owner Shane Morgan started to pump out water rains.

Morgan said he turned on the pump and then left for five to ten minutes.

When he returned, he discovered the pump hose had some how reversed and was pulling water into the 70-passenger charter boat.

He said he barely had time to get the pump and himself out before the boat went under.

The boat had been used over the weekend for a dinner cruise, Morgan said and was scheduled for another cruise Monday night.

He planned to contact his insurance company about the accidental
sinking.

Spirit of the Rivers was our boat the Star of Saugatuck before moving to Brazos - so sorry to hear of your misfortune. I hope that you can save her - she served us well and we have many fond memories and wonderful stories about her and all the passengers that she carried from all over the world. Our former crew members and ourselves were deeply saddened by this news. Best wishes and good luck!

That boat couldnt make enough money to keep afloat. I hope the insurance investigators have a field day with this one.

I know someone who used to work for Shane. This does not surprise me. Waco PD sets up radar on Lake Brazos/MLK so dont speed to the bank with that insurance check.

It is simple. The Brazos river has never wanted to be navigable in any form or fashion. Men tried to build locks to make it navigable. Where are the locks now? In the middle of a farm field. The river changed course to foil their plans. It does not want riverboats either. Accident? Probably. Destiny? Definitely.

actually it was a duck torpedo thrown by aquaman. I saw the whole thing. Your mom's an insurance fraud.

It could be that President Lilly was driving the boat. Hit a snag in the river and started to take on water...he may have jumped ship before he went down with the vessel. Nothing to joke about. Mr Morgan owns that boat and is most likely not too excited about tv coverage. On the other hand, I remember when Buddy B was in charge of KWTX nothing negative about Baylor ever came out. What happened in the Baylor Bubble...stayed a secret in the Baylor Bubble. Now look at the coverage BU gets. Kids drinking in the streets and throwning beer on Police. Coaches drinking with students at Scruffy's. Waco should be glad we have good reporting, so keep up the good work friends at KWTX.

Why do people think it is okay to leave machines that can't think to handle the job unattended. I'm sure we'll see public funds cleaning up this mess as well as the other junk that ends up in the rivers.
