Nine-Vehicle Collision Causes Lunch-Hour Traffic Jam Save Email Print

A | A | A

(May 19, 2008)—Five people were injured just after 12:30 p.m. Monday in a nine-vehicle chain-reaction collision in the eastbound Lane of 2900 SW HK Dodgen Loop in Temple.

The collision occurred after one driver was forced to slow or stop suddenly because of heavy traffic, police said.

What followed was series of rear-end collisions involving eight other vehicles whose drivers weren’t able to stop or get out of the way.

Three of the injured victims were treated at the scene, but two were taken by ambulance to Scott & White Hospital.

Information about their conditions wasn’t immediately available.

The accident closed the eastbound lanes of the loop for about an hour.

Michelle, are you the KWTX post monitor? I doubt it since you don't know to turn your caps lock key off for a whole comment. It's considered yelling. Do you not have the free will to NOT READ the comments? I always love it when others tell people what they can and cannot post! lol

IF YOU WANT TO RANT AND RAVE....GO TO CRAIGSLIST. OTHERWISE JUST COMMENT ON THE STORY AT HAND. THIS IS NOT WHAT KWTX INTENDED FOR COMMENTS AND AT CRAIGSLIST, YOU CAN BASH AND BE BASHED.

People need to freakin SLOW DOWN! MadMax is right, you rear end someone, it's YOUR fault! Construction zones are hazardous enough without having idiots trying to speed through them!

Posted by: marie Location: waco on May 21, 2008 at 11:23 AM
Actually, not a cop, I don't live in Waco that is just where I am at when I post. I cannot vouch for Waco cops, but I do personally know several in Temple and there are alot of good cops that do care. Do you get paid for your job or do you get a check each month in the mail? Don't criticize someone for working. Also police officers have a job to do, part of that job is to make sure people drive the speed limit. If you are not speeding then you don't have to slam on your brakes when you see a cop. Sounds like common sense to me.

Ya Mr. not a cop, I'm a Police Officer so I can make an easy paycheck. Are you serious? I could understand if we made 100k a year, but we don't. Ya, we truly enjoy doing cpr on kids, notifying families of deaths, chasing people, fighting people and getting spit on...etc etc, all for a check!!! WAKE UP... We do it because we truly do care, the salary is not a factor in our decision. For your rapes and murders, guess what??? When you have roughly 150k people in a city and maybe 15 Officers on the road, who have to take 911 calls, disturbance calls, accidents, burglary reports, etc etc.. You tell me how we are supposed to be on every street corner to protect every person. You seem to be a know it all, so I'm sure you will post your answer. See, what the media doesn't show everyday are the criminals that we do apprehend or crimes that we prevent.. So if we make this easy money, please, feel free to apply to be one, but I'm sure you don't have the heart or bravery to do...

You might be alive, but you definitely are an oxygen thief... Try to do something productive with your life instead of being a disappointment to your parents.. I don't believe in abortions, but maybe your parents should have made an exception..

marie, i can not stand cops sorry. cops do not care about me or you, all they want to do is make a paycheck. and marie you live in waco, there is murder or rape there almost everyday. and you say cops are doing there job!!

Posted by: marie Location: waco on May 21, 2008 at 08:32 AM
To coward/anonymous, I cannot believe that a human being can be so selfish. The last Temple officer was a friend of mine also, and thanks Madmax for defending him. I bet you reveal your name one day when you need your life saved by a police officer that is just doing his/her job. A job that you are obviously too afraid to do. Luckily nobody was seriously injured in this accident.

Wow! It seems these blogs have become more than what was intended! They are becoming down right personal! I'll bet KWTX keeps them going just to get a good laugh everyday. HaHa!

hahaha at least i know how to drive. i am still alive, not six feet under.

Posted by: jeff Location: bell on May 21, 2008 at 01:07 AM
anonymous you have just showed just how stupid you really are. Of corse thats why you hide your name as anonymous ! !

Posted by: Madmax Location: Killeen on May 21, 2008 at 12:26 AM
Anonymous, how about you learn how to write a proper sentence before you post it on a website that thousands can read, you illiterate..hahahaha, who's laughing now??? See, I bet you expect me to get all upset over your post, all it shows is your stupidity and lack of maturity. I bet it makes you feel so good to post something like that, huh tough guy? Well keep on posting worthless blogs like that because I truly get a good laugh; not because of the content, but more of your third grade writing ability. By the way, I was a friend of the last Temple Officer killed and I can truly say, you will never be as good as a person that he was. Anyways, no need to waste my breath on you because I know that is what you want. So, hope you have a better day and you might want to enroll back in Elementary School and actually pay a little attention..

Posted by: jeff Location: bell on May 20, 2008 at 10:41 PM
finely there are more smart people out there. The police didn't cause this mess. Guess if someone had broken down or a accident there it would of been their fault not yours. To concerned, anonymous and temple citizen you are the one driving your car no one else. If you rearend someone you were following to close and not watching. The speed limit is a limit guide only on best of driving days. If you had to slam on your breaks you were to close and or driving to fast. Stop blaming everyone for your lack of common sense. I always hear people saying they (police) have to give me 10 miles. WRONG. Do you go to HEB with $10.00 and walk out with $20.00 worth of food. NO

Posted by: Anonymous on May 20, 2008 at 10:30 PM
madmax how about all of the stupid cops that die here in temple. and i am not crying about that. hahaha

Posted by: Madmax Location: Killeen on May 20, 2008 at 06:50 PM
P.S. Also, check with Temple P.D. and see how many fatal accidents they average.. You will see that it only stays in the lower to mid single digits and is no where near Killeen's 13 for the year so far. So congrats the Police for their strict enforcement which makes the citizens slow down...Cry babys

Posted by: Madmax Location: Killeen on May 20, 2008 at 06:47 PM
To all you cry babies out there, the Police are not responsible for your actions, YOU ARE!! The law states that you must maintain a safe distance and speed at all times on the roadway so rear end accidents don't happen and if they do, guess whose fault it is?? YOURS! Quit blaming the Police because people are braking when they see them work the construction zones. I bet if you ask any of the workers, they will appreciate the Temple PD's efforts in making people slow down so they don't become another statistic... Remember, Texas as one of the highest construction worker deaths in the nation, so atleast Temple is doing something positive about it. See, here we go again, people are not taking accountability and responsibility for their actions, they just want to blame others. Grow up and learn how to drive instead of crying all the time...

Posted by: Jason Location: Ft.Hood on May 20, 2008 at 06:26 PM
Slow down !!! Stop trying to run over the Mini Cooper with your F-350 daullie !!!! Sounds like road rage may have been a factor, not the police.

Posted by: concerned Location: Central Texas on May 20, 2008 at 04:02 PM
I saw the actions described below by citizen taking place yesterday and was wondering how long it would be before someone was hurt. Well now I know not, long. I hope this story and these comments reach the supervisors at the Temple PD and these officers and whoever approved their tactics are repremanded for these actions...

Posted by: Anonymous on May 20, 2008 at 02:31 PM
i hope if anybody gets hurt it will be one of the police.

Posted by: Temple Citizen on May 20, 2008 at 10:29 AM
I was ticketed last year for failure to observe barrier by officers using these same tactics on the loop. The two SUV's in front of me stopped in the road and I had to avoid hitting them by moving over past the yellow line. I am going the speed limit, but everything is going to change if cars are just stopped. The officer was out in the road shooting the radar causing a hazard. I am in a smaller car and can't see over large SUV's. What is a driver to do when there is only one lane getting blocked by a police officer and his motorcycle? Someone is going to get killed and I hope the revenue that the city takes in from these ticky-tack citations are a consolation.

You say "Hury up Temple." You mean "Hurry up Texas." The state is doing the slow construction not the city.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 20, 2008 at 01:57 AM
temple pd sucks. all they want is your money.

Posted by: Billye Location: Gatesville on May 19, 2008 at 05:28 PM
I wonder how many incidents like this have to occur before something is done about the traffic situation. I was stuck for 40 minutes trying to get out of the Home Depot parking lot. It took me longer to get out of that parking lot than it did to drive back to Gatesville. I will avoid Temple shopping until something is done.

Posted by: citizen Location: temple on May 19, 2008 at 04:21 PM
This accident was a dierct fault of the Temple PD. I went through the scene of the accident minutes before it happened and knew at that time an accident would occur soon. Two officers were located under the 57th street bridge one was radaring the other writing tickets. As cars approached from the east the officer would radar the car and then if was speeding he would step into the middle of loop 363 under the bridge and make the car stop and pull onto the shoulder to be ticketed. Several vehicles in front of me had to slam onto their brakes while a car in front of us tried to find a place to pull over in the middle of the traffic cones and barricades that were out for the construction that is in the area. The Temple PD should be ashamed of themselves of putting citizens in harms way just so they can collect double fines in a construction zone, if cars were speeding in the zone and putting workers at harm there was many other ways to perform the traffic stops in a safer manner

Posted by: cleanup personal Location: belton on May 19, 2008 at 03:57 PM
its caused by agreesive drivers with the me first attitude. Point blank. Slow down America and live longer five minutes longer will not kill you but DEATH is forever.

Posted by: K Location: Temple on May 19, 2008 at 03:04 PM
If they'd finish all the dang construction, this intersection wouldn't be a problem - but people are having to find other routes away from the S&W/Mall area...and so its leading to severe congestion on areas that can't handle it. Hurry up Temple!

Whoo glad i wasn't driving when it happened. Hope everyone is OK!
