Cindy Sheehan and other anti-war activists plan to stage a die-in beginning Wednesday outside the White House.
Sheehan is the Vacaville, Calif. woman whose month-long protest in Central Texas attracted international attention.
Sheehan says she hopes about 2,000 people will join her in dying symbolically outside the White House over the next several days, one representing each of the U.S. troops who has died since the start of the war in Iraq.
"On the occasion after the 2,000th soldier I'll be laying down and not getting up,” Sheehan said, “and I don't know if I will be arrested. I don't know how any Americans will join me in this act of civil disobedience, but right now we've identified the problem and it's not going away.”
Sheehan told reporters she also plans to visit Arlington National Cemetery and injured soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital.
The vigil continues until Saturday.
Sheehan camped out in August near the President’s Central Texas ranch, demanding a meeting with Mr. Bush about the death of her 24-year-old son Casey, a 1st Cavalry Division soldier who was killed in Iraq in 2004.
The protest attracted anti-war activists and pro-Bush demonstrators from around the state and country, but Sheehan and her supporters largely dropped from the media radar after Hurricane Katrina struck.
