(May 30, 2008)—Marc Hirst, 32, the McLennan County Jail trusty who walked away from a work detail on Tuesday and was recaptured on Thursday, was facing new criminal complaints charging burglary of a habitation and escape Friday.

Hirst, who was originally jailed on a cocaine possession charge, remains in custody in lieu of bonds totalling $50,000.

A deputy arrested Hirst just before noon Thursday near the intersection of Highway 6 and Highway 164 east of Waco after spotting him walking across the road near the highway intersection.

Hirst was described as tired and hungry.

Hirst was wearing only boxer shorts Tuesday when he fled from the work detail at the county’s Precinct 2 work barn.

He managed to elude officers throughout the day and then, authorities say, broke into a residence late Tuesday night from which he took clothing a shotgun and ammunition.

He did not have the weapon with him when he was recaptured on Thursday.
