(June 4, 2008)—Texas Department of Public Safety troopers are stepping up efforts to find and fine uninsured motorists, under a program announced Tuesday.
State law requires every driver to carry minimum liability coverage but officials estimate that about four million or 20 percent of Texas vehicles are not covered.
Driving without liability insurance can result in fines of up to $350 and repeat offenders can have their licenses suspended.
The "TexasSure" program developed a statewide database of private passenger vehicles that are insured.
It will allow law enforcement and county tax officials to confirm electronically if a vehicle has the required coverage.
Some motorists use phony insurance cards or cancel their coverage after they renew.

How about those who do not have insurance,go to jail no questions asked. The same goes to those who drive with out a license and get their car cars towed.....That will help all of that crap!
Great Idea!! We need to get these uninsured motorists off our streets and highways. No more phony cards or the old trick of canceling right after renewing!
I'm a firm believer in check stops where ALL the motorists are stopped and questioned.
