(June 4, 2008)—Bosque County News Managing Editor La Dawn Garland, 42, was on her way back Wednesday to her home in Hamilton County, two days after she was found parked at a rest stop outside of Lander, Wyo, about 1,300 miles away from the Waco Best Buy Store where she said she was going last week to buy a cell phone battery.

Garland’s husband and granddaughter are accompanying her on the drive back to Hamilton County.

Garland left the Fremont County, Wyo. Detention Center Tuesday in the company of family members after an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle charge was dropped.

Garland told the deputy who found her Monday that she had been parked at the rest stop since Friday and that she hadn’t eaten or had anything to drink since pulling off the highway.

She was in the Dodge pickup truck in which she left Meridian Wednesday.

The truck is registered to the newspaper’s publisher.

Still unanswered, at least publicly, is the question of why she ended up in Wyoming after setting off a week ago ostensibly to buy a battery.

Investigators in Wyoming asked her about the reason for the disappearance, but would not comment on what she told them except to say, “That’s best left to the family to discuss.”

Garland lived in Wyoming for two years between 1979 and 1982 and graduated from high school in Evanston, which is in the southwest corner of the state near the Utah-Wyoming state line.

Lander, a community of about 7,000 residents is in the foothills of Wyoming’s Wind River Mountains in the center of the state.

In that some of you are well intentioned and genuinely interested, this is directed to you. LaDawn left/ran of her own accord. Nothing has been published in the paper regarding all of the issues that have come to light, as it is all still under investigation. As soon as law enforcement frees us to disclose the facts, we will do so, including to this station and all other members of the media who assisted in getting the word out to help find her when she disappeared. In the meantime, all concerned would greatly appreciate it that the inuendos and gossip come to a halt. You are doing serious harm to innocent people. LaDawn was not a reporter, no one made her run or influenced her to run. As we always do, we will talk to all sides (including her)and fully dislcose it when free to do so. Again, we would sincerely appreciate it if you would stop the posts altogether and let law enforcement take it from here. If you feel we are just trying to sell papers and disagree with us-don't buy it. ty

lol Jerry, I think you're so right! I posted before that small town papers were full of gossip! This story has gone from Bosque news editor having a breakdown.. to her boss involved.. to something printed that's made Gap people mad at each other.. to Clifton paper and Leon paper printing all lies! Wow, don't you dare say anything about my cousin Jethro or granny! LOL You small town "rural" people are a riot!lol And btw, it wouldn't hurt for alot of you "good folk" to go back to school and learn to spell. lol

You know, I think that "Debbie M.", "Dan" and "Me" are the same person. The writing seems to be the same and they are all venting about the same thing. KWTX needs to check the IP addresses on those to see if they are coming from the same place!

Last year our local newspaper Bosque County News wrote an investigative piece on a woman who caused much controversy for Cranfills Gap. I think she was the former school superintendent and if I remember correctly Controversial was the word used to describe her. I know the paper ran a lot of stories about her, some not too flattering to say the least. What a coincidence that this same woman who went to Alaska is back in town--at the exact moment that LaDawn disappears.Hmmmmm. Makes you wonder all right.

I have lived in the big town and the little town and the small local newspaper could never please anyone. You wrote about thier kinfolk or their friend, and if it'sthe truth THEY DON'T WANT TO HEAR THE TRUTH! Also, in the small town, there's not that much to do except gripe and complain about anybody who don't agree with you. It's called Killing time by gossiping. more likely, someone had it in for LaDawn because of the paper reporting on something than her boss making her disapear! You idiots watch too much TV!

It's obvious that newspaper has done an not too kind story on you or wrote something you did nt like. We dont all see things eye to eye..we can agree to disagre and try to get along. I know the paper had nothing to do with LaDawn's disappearance. In fact, it makes more sense that someone the paper had exposed might have tried to harm her and them. I know that was the first line of thinking when she first disappered. And yes , they are pretty heroic people to back someone with out knowing the why or the what of a puzzling situation. Not many people would. Sounds to me like you have an ax to grind. Sour grapes?

You arent that woman supt over a tthe Gap not long ago that the Bosque County News did a story on, are you, wher they found out she had a fake Phd and brole the law a lot? I heard she left the country when the authorities got after her. Maybe that woman had something to do with Ladawns disappearnce? I heard she was coming back to this part of the country. They need to see where that woman was when LaDawn disappeared. Boy, that would be story!

Hey, I know plenty of lowlife folks, namely those from Cranfills Gap that harm children. Want to talk about that while we are trashing people? I doubt u would as the truth would be too ugly for u. U all are getting what u deserve.

Posted by: Debbie M. Location: Clifton on Jun 7, 2008 at 01:50 PM
That is horse hockey about the Bosque County News! They print the truth where Leon Smith and the Clifton Record won't! Clifton Record = crooked newspaper reporters who trash people they or their friends don't like, misquote them ,and print lies.I don't waste my money on trash like the Clifton Record. They seldom have the story straight...it is better now that some of their low-life reporters have left for parts unknown...but i still dont waste my hard earned money as Clifton record only wants to print one side of things--their and their friends side, if they dont happen to agree with you. Clifton Record will print lies and slander and never look back. Bosque County News is where to read the news if you want to know the truth. Those who trash Bosque County News don't want the truth to be told. What are you afraid of? Evan Moore is not afraid to do an expose on those who need to be exposed. If the glove fits, he will print it! For the truth, it is not the Clifton Record and Leon Smith.

There's a report right above this one of a Child Victim Of Stabbing Dies. It currently has 40 comments. Most are criticizing the parents of both children. Yet I don't see a single retaliatory comment from any family member of either child.

I just want to say that I have been reading news and comments on this website here very a long time. I've read about many tragic deaths in Central Texas, everything from someone doing something criminal and was shot, from child deaths from public perception of neglectful parents. I have seen families from these lost love ones post comments, usually (one or two) posts in defense of the critics that comment too and that's it. But never have I seen a family post so many defensive, ungracious and rude comments as has been on this story. I won't even repeat the comments from some family members to the public. But I will say to you that you should do what you're telling others....don't click on here and comment. It was best you should have "Let It Go" in the beginning. A loved one found ALIVE is more important that any "reputation" and alot more than many other families are left with. May God be with you and yours.

well i am a volunteer fireman, and when we get false alarms or fals calls we dont get reimbursed, however every time we roll a truck it cost the city 1,300 dollars, and to be honest we dont know exactly what was wrong or even if she left on her own free will, i know lots that have claimed to have claimed to have left on thier own and come to find out later they had been abuducted, and threatend , or family threatend...But we just dont know at this point..I would hope that something wasnt right upstairs and she had a mental break down compaired to just up and leaving, cause i know for one each and everyone of you including myself was praying, concerned, and i was doing everything on my end i could, i wish i could come out and hug everyone of you and ty each personally, but i cant so i can do it here and sayyy hugggs to everyone who searched, prayed, hoped, and cried with all of us here...Thank you all, May God bless each and everyone of you, Agian Thank you so much..

u know jeff is not stupipd, in fact i think he is the only one who has tried to be calm and see tings your way and also say how he apprichiates evryone one of you, just that its gets a little old to bash a family when you have no clue as to why she left, I on the other hand do know why but i shall never tell, I love you Ladawn,Michael, justin, and amanda and darrell, dont worry about the ones on here running thier flaps, as most of em, were just released from thier trailers parks...but the other ladies and gentelmen who actually dont trash everyone and are very courtious Thank you so very much, from the bottom of our hearts ty so much

Mary, if you'll notice, it wasn't so much her family asking for help (though I do admit they were asking. I would too in their shoes) as it was her BOSS. Go back and look at all the stories and news clips about the situation and see how many times her boss' name and the paper's name are mentioned. Those of us that have dealt with him still aren't sure he didn't have something to do with this. Lots of free publicity for the paper and for him came out of this. I could be wrong, and I hope I am because I would hate to think someone could be so low. But if you have ever dealt with this man it wouldn't surprise you at all to think that he could have found a way to cook this all up. It's just a thought, but I definately wouldn't paint him as any sort of hero in this story. All in all, I'm still not completely sure she had a clear mind and understood what was going on. We will probably never know the truth, even those of us close to the family. The most important thing is that she is home safe

To give it up: Thanks for the rude update as all her family has been. I don't think the public really cares anymore. God bless your rude family.

She is home safe now with her family people give it up and get a life.. What else do you want to know would you like to actually meet Ladawn....God bless you all rude people....

Oops! I goofed! The apology from LaDawn's brother is on the website comments "Editor Released from Jail". Her emloyer Mr. Moore was so worried about LaDawn being released without her family there yet, that he kept the unauthorized motor vehicle charge against her until her husband and daughter could get there. Then he dropped the charge so she could be released to them. Whatever LaDawn's problems are, the Lord will be walking every step of the way with her and her family, just as He was while she was missing. With Faith and Courage, there is nothing that cannot be overcome.

Posted by: Preacher Location: Bosque County on Jun 6, 2008 at 01:44 PM
Obviously you folks speaking unkindly about LaDawn's brother did not read his apology to and THANKS to the people who searched, prayed and cried for his sister and helped find her. This is on the other web comments "Missing Central Texas Editor Now in Wyoming." Maybe he should type it on here too. They are real nice people who at first thought you were critcizing LaDawn and them too. They really do Thank You so very much from the bottom of their hearts for what all of you did so selfessly to help them. In their behalf, just because I care about them, I ask that the Lord bestow His blessings on the many of you who stepped up to help your fellow man in their time of need. Thanks again. It is what makes America a great country. Just A Friend of LaDawn and her Family.

Posted by: Mary Location: Cove on Jun 6, 2008 at 09:57 AM
Go, Joe and rob rob! I couldn't agree with you more. There is obviously so much, much more here than meets the eye. Maybe the family is embarrassed by all this attention. Well, that is understandable, but, they did ask for it. When you ask for public help~some volunteer, some public-funded~you put yourself in the public eye. Uncomfortable, perhaps, but that's just the way it is. I understand that this family has been stressed to the max. But there is no excuse to be rude to the people who tried to help you~at your request. You just don't go with your hand out, so to speak, and then suddenly say, "Ok, problem's over. Bug off."

Joe, thank you. I thought I was the only one thinking this. I feel is is appropriate considering she left of her own free will. My prayer go out to the family, but instead of lashing out at the public who helped you try to find her, Give a thank you, and mean it. If she had a medical problem, that is a family issue, BUT give the people who searched for her a reason to have searched.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Cranfills Gap on Jun 5, 2008 at 06:31 PM
I don't think LaDawn uses drugs. I do think she has a lot of stress in her life and problems and may have had a nervous brakdown. I had one years ago, the stress was just too much...and one little unimportant detail put me right over the edge..I still could function and speak but did not make sense..and I did not know where I was ...so I know that can happen. It is very scary. Whatever her problems are, I hope she gets help and keeps geting support from family and friends. But for the grace of God, it could have been me!

Posted by: Me Location: Tx on Jun 5, 2008 at 06:06 PM
Yes, let's focus on the other missing man even though he may have decided to take a vaca to another state and not tell anyone. This wild goose chase story has made some of the public left skeptical about all missing persons. How sad.........!!

Posted by: Anonymous on Jun 5, 2008 at 04:14 PM
OH COME ON! There is a man who has been missing since Memorial Day....and we are just now hearing about it! STOP this "laDawn" thingy and get to the other missing person!!! Enough is enough...she had it planned all along, now make her pay and be done with all of 'her' coverage! There are WAY more important stories out there to cover!!!!

Posted by: Just a Location: thought on Jun 5, 2008 at 01:09 PM
Nancy, I agree with you and that also goes for the hot tempered brothers who keep lashing out at naysayers and even people who helped in this search. Hint ...graciousness and heart a felt "Thank You" would go a long way.....

This is a blessing. I prayed for this lady. Welcome back to Texas.

CC I totally agree with...and also good idea wacky, why don't we let LaDawn answer those questions,I mean she is a editor, correct? Now that the Meth( I mean dehydration,*wink* *wink*) has worn off give her a chance to answer!

Posted by: Joe Location: Waco on Jun 4, 2008 at 11:25 PM
I don't kow why Ms. Garland disappeared, but it seems to have been of her own accord. Shouldn't she be held responsible for the expenses incurred by taxpayers to search for and find her? Seems like a few years ago there was a woman who got cold feet prior to her marriage and disappeared. I believe she was billed for the expenses incurred in finding her.

Posted by: CC Location: Killeen on Jun 4, 2008 at 10:45 PM
Yes Thankyou Top hat I forgot an er.

Posted by: Top Hat Location: Killeen on Jun 4, 2008 at 08:17 PM
Hey, C>C>---you did mean catch his murderers, didn't you? That young man's death was a real tragedy. There are some evil folks on this earth. Someone will snitch on those killers. Offer a reward. God smite them. But it is ok to want LaDawn safe and sound. I think the publicity about her is just about over, and we will find something else to talk about and she can deal with her problems, whatever they are. At least it seems she has a loving family and caring friends. And that in itself is a blessing.

Posted by: CC Location: Killeen on Jun 4, 2008 at 05:38 PM
I agree with WOW lmao. Now that she is found are we going to have to hear about every stop on her journey home? I mean shouldn't the story of the soldier that actually was hurt and killed in HH have more time spent on him? We know he didn't just run off. Lets catch his murders!!!!!!

Posted by: wacky Location: waco on Jun 4, 2008 at 04:55 PM
Why did you go all the way to Wyoming LaDawn? You got a secret lover or something? How could you do that to your family?

Posted by: Ann Location: Temple on Jun 4, 2008 at 04:22 PM
LaDawn, I do not know you but I am so glad prayers were answered in your behalf. Oh by the way I remember seeing your Mom on the news promising you a spanking :) I know she is so relieved that you are alright so maybe she will forgo the spanking this time :) God bless you and your family.
