A hearing was scheduled Monday in Shreveport, La., for escaped Texas death row inmate Charles Victor Thompson, 35, who was captured Sunday night while talking on a pay phone outside a Shreveport liquor store.
The officers who arrested the inmate said he appeared to be intoxicated and had a bicycle with him.
Thompson faces execution over the 1998 shooting deaths of his ex-girlfriend, Dennise Hayslip of Tomball, and her new boyfriend, Darren Keith Cain of Spring.
Thompson's first death sentence was overturned on appeal, but a jury in Houston in late October re-sentenced him to execution.
He was awaiting transfer back to prison when he freed himself from handcuffs and left jail in civilian clothes Thursday.
Thompson fooled at least four jail employees into thinking he worked for the state attorney general's office.
Lt. John Martin, a sheriff's spokesman, says investigators believe Thompson had inside help.
The U.S. Marshal's service says Thompson was charged Friday with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
