He’s a pioneer in the development of the solid-body electric guitar, which helped make the sound of modern rock and roll possible. He’s also behind such recording innovations as overdubbing, delay effects, phasing effects and multitrack recording. Rolling Stone ranks him the 46th best guitarist of all time.
