(June 5, 2008)—State health officials say 35 cases of Salmonella have been reported in Texas since an outbreak thought to stem from raw tomatoes started in April.

Salmonellosis has been found in eleven counties including Bell, Cameron, Dallas, Fort Bend, Harris, Hays, Jim Wells, Nueces, San Patricio, Tarrant and Travis.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the multi-state outbreak.

No deaths have been reported.

The Texas Department of State Health Services hasn't identified specific types and sources of tomatoes that may carry the Saintpaul strain of Salmonella.

Consumers are advised to cook tomatoes at 145 degrees for at least 15 seconds to kill
Salmonella, avoid buying bruised or damaged tomatoes and discard any that appear spoiled, - thoroughly wash all tomatoes and to refrigerate within two hours or discard cut, peeled or cooked tomatoes.

Wow, burn the worlds supply of tomatoes and destroy all in storage? You must be kidding, I dont know what I'd do without salsa for my chips and pizza sauce.

I see only one plan that will be effective here: 1. Pull all tomatoes and tomato products out of stores. 2. Destroy all fresh tomatoes in storage. 3. Burn all fields of tomatoes, around the world if possible. 4. Ban the growing and sale of tomatoes throughout the world. Well, that's pretty much it.
