(June 11, 2008)--A crane accident left one worker on the ground dead after a piece of equipment fell from a cable and struck the man Wednesday in Dallas, police said.

Workers could be seen Wednesday night examining part of an evidently damaged cable extending from a crane atop a several-stories-high unfinished building.

Police Sgt. Gil Cerda told The Dallas Morning News that a crane operator was raising a hook when the cable snapped and the hook fell on the worker.

The name of the worker was not immediately released.

Federal safety officials will help investigate the cause of the Wednesday afternoon accident.

Based on the information it sounds like the crane operator two blocked the load block or head ache ball.

Shoddy machinery. All the decent cranes are over in Dubai building their tawdry symbol of "obscene profits". We, and others countries are left with old equipment that shouldn't even pass inspection. This country needs to get off its behind and start manufacturing our own equipment. Until then, we can expect more tragic accidents.
