Air Force Doctors Escape Serious Injury In Crash of Flying Parachute Save Email Print

A | A | A

(June 15, 2008)—Two Air Force physicians escaped serious injury Sunday when their power parachute hit some hidden power lines in Llano County.

The doctors were flying the dual-seat power-chute, which resembles an ultralight, but gets its lift from a parachute rather than wings, around Sandy Creek when they hit power lines that were hidden by trees around 8:15 a.m. Sunday.

Dr. Edward Rashid of Fair Oaks Ranch was taken to Brackenridge Hospital in Austin with broken bones.

He was in stable condition Sunday afternoon.

His passenger, Dr. John Kupko, who’s assigned to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado, escaped injury.

To hit powerlines hidden by trees implies they were flying below the treetops. Perhaps a bit more altitude would have been wise.
