LORENA (March 26, 2013)—One man suffered what troopers called a serious injury Tuesday morning after he was trapped in the wreckage of an overturned truck.
Department of Public Safety trooper D.L. Wilson said at about 10:30 a.m. a refuse truck was traveling along Robin Road near Lorena when one of the rear axles separated from the truck and fell off.
The driver then lost control of the truck and it rolled over in the roadway.
The driver, LeLon McGahee, 45, of Harker Heights, was able to escape the truck without injury but his passenger, Carl Williams, 45, also of Harker Heights, was pinned in the wreckage for almost an hour.
Lorena firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to free Williams but he was left with what rescuers called a significant injury to his foot.
Williams was taken by ambulance to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center for treatment.
The truck is owned by Progressive Waste Systems in McGregor.
