Gay Marriages Performed In California Save Email Print

(June 17, 2008)--Some couples tied the knot after hours Monday night, but most county offices in California were closed at the exact minute gay marriage was legalized.

Tuesday is the day that hundreds, if not thousands, of gay couples will exchange vows.

The law banning gay marriage was officially voided at 5:01 p.m. Pacific time Monday, when most county offices were closed.

A UCLA study predicts that over the next three years, more than 100,000 gay couples from around the country could get married in California.

The law has residency requirement.

But it's also possible that a November referendum could overturn gay marriage again.

One of the first marriages was presided over by San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, whose challenge to the state's marriage laws in 2004 led to the ruling by California's supreme court.

At City Hall, the Mayor helped marry a lesbian couple who are two pioneers of the gay rights movement.

They’re 87- and 84-years-old.

Opponents of gay marriage have not given up -- they're launching various legal challenges.

A hearing on one matter is scheduled for Tuesday.

Those that say JUDGE NOT, should we get rid of all the justices, judges and jurors all over our country?? Wow, that would save us alot of $$$ because there would be no need for any law enforcement, courts or prisons. Everybody should be allowed to do what they want..yeah, that makes alot of since! Dave is right... you people are only using that "judging" thing for PROTEST. We know it's wrong and you do too. So what's next...leave the drug dealers alone to live as they want?

Lesbians and gays have the right to marry--good luck to all of you. Being gay or lesbian is a sexual preference and does not mean you are a terrible person. I am sure they also believe in God. Who is ANYONE to be passing judgement??

Posted by: michelle Location: killeen on Jun 18, 2008 at 03:01 AM
Hmm, what gives any of you the right to pass judgement on another human being? I do not see how two men or two women being in love affects anyone'e else's life. It does not affect how you wake up, eat, sleep, buy groceries, drive you car, etc.. The fact that they want to get married, to me, is a testament to their undying love for an another. What would God think of all of you who are judging these people? Cast ye, not the first stone? Grow up, mind your own business and take care of your own families, as God intended. I am sure He is more than capable of doing all the judging that needs to be done!

Posted by: Dave Location: Waco on Jun 18, 2008 at 12:57 AM
If God calls it an abomination, then I'll have to go with God on this one. (no brainer) Any argument will have to be with Him, not me. There is also a verse in the New Testament of the Bible that tells Christians to "judge all things". If I am not gay and I make a judgement based on the Bible concerning gays, I will not be guilty of prejudice. Prejudice is making a judgement before getting the facts. When people quote "judge not...", they are only trying to stop you from protesting. It's like Bill Clinton quoting the Bible- "where there is no vision, the people perish" and not knowing a thing about the verse he is quoting. And to lyn, (way down there) Christians do not kill Christians, Catholics kill Christians, you have to make the distinction or you will really get messed up.

Liars, cheaters, gamblers, drunkards. I hope you include these sins also, oh yes, are you fat (obesity is a sin). So if you are a heterosexual, married and even look on someone else and lust you also aren't going to make it. Now you see, probably there is not one on these boards who can say they have not sinned. He who has not sinned cast the first stone because he who says he has not sinned is a liar according to our Lord. What I'm saying is pray for your brother, direct them in the right paths. Love is patient and kind. I think we all need to sit back and take an inventory of all of our own sins. By the way I am heterosexual and all the gay people I have ever known are the kindest, sweetest and non-violent people I know who would give you the shirt off their back. Now tell me, how is that they are doomed? Only the Word of God can change people's minds but remember do it with love in your heart

You people are hilarious! I can't belive this even an issue. Don't you think there are more important things going on in the world that we need to worry about? Besides, this just means that more children will be adopted into loving homes. And to Swishy, you beat me to the Family Guy joke! HA!

If you read these post most of the ones against gay marriages are praying for some type of end of world scenario (remember I said some...so don't get your panties in a wad). Those speaking for gay marriage seem to be more tolerant of those who are different by birth, yes I said birth. there will always be those who experiement but there are those who are born gay. As for rhetoric; just my humble opinions. I have not attacked your stance or belief; those are unchangeable as mine are. I believe in love and the right for people to be happy and have rights. They are not asking for your money or your vote; they are asking for the right to publicly declare their love and for their "other" to have the same rights as other "spouses". This nation was founded by those fleeing persecution; doesn't seem we have come that far. Homosexuality is just one part of a person and yet they are judged on that alone; that is a sad commentary on those doing the judging.

Well Agnostic in Killeen, since you don't believe in "some fictional stories of a man with super powers", how about you give all that money you have that says "In God We Trust" to me. Great idea huh? Can't have it both ways moron! get real!

Posted by: Anonymous on Jun 17, 2008 at 07:01 PM
we are not judging the sodomites, your right only god does that. im just saying that pederasts are an abomination before god and that if they do not repent they will suffer the most unimaginable pain of burning for eternity in hell. im just stating that fact. you do not fall in love with someone of the same sex, its a deviant sexual fetish brought on by this nonconformist liberal sick society that we live in. you left wing nut jobs need to get real. homosexuality is a decease that needs to be cured. forget about stem cell research lets have anti-pederast vaccines, lobotomies what have you.

Posted by: me Location: texas on Jun 17, 2008 at 06:56 PM
Agnostic, thanks for showing us all the raging tyrant mentality of the gay community. Actually, if you had ever read the bible, you would know what it says. But you're an athiest so you can take your raging hate and shove it where the sun don't shine. Btw, your constitutional right to marry is null and void in every state but NY and Cali and soon could be null and void in Cali too if voters approve the Cali constitution change so get over it!

I dont have anything against gays, but marriage is a man & a woman, period.

Posted by: Lory on Jun 17, 2008 at 05:50 PM
I am a Christian and personally feel that God has spoken on the issue of homosexuality. I cannot accept the CONCEPT of homosexuality, but can love and support friends and family who are in this life situation. My big struggle is that I am not sure that it is the duty of the government to decide one way or the other on this issue. What are your thoughts? Should the government (national, state, local, etc.) be allowed to decide on every issue of moral dilemma? Should individuals alone be trusted to set the course on such topics?

Posted by: b Location: waco on Jun 17, 2008 at 04:52 PM
I am a firm believer that you cannot help who you fall in love with. More power to them.

Posted by: CD Location: Belton on Jun 17, 2008 at 04:38 PM
anonymous in central texas ...for goodness sake.. then why don't you post a name and town with all your rhetoric? As far as the gay lifestyle being more stable, they go through as many partners as straights do. But now, at least in Cali and NY, they'll have to go through the messy long divorces like straight couples do. Of course homosexuality is not the way nature intended. How will gay couples explain to their children about the birds and the bees when they don't live it? Liberals are turning our country into "one big free for all".

Posted by: shonda Location: killeen on Jun 17, 2008 at 04:19 PM
I personally think it is sick to be gay, male or female, and that is just my opinion,I think gay people just want a marriage license,so they can fake as if it is right,Its not right, and I hope to god Texas don't try what pathetic California did, but like I said this is just my opinion!

Posted by: Agnostic Location: Killeen on Jun 17, 2008 at 04:11 PM
What ever happened to the separation of church and state?? Why is it that some people feel that only "straight" people are entitled to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness"? All these so-called Christians judge and persecute homosexuals for their choices and their lifestyle. WHO ARE YOU TO JUDGE? I thought Christians learn that only GOD shall make HIS judgment and HE will decide who will join Him in His kingdom??? Don't these condemnations by you go against God's plan?? I thought God loves ALL his children? All his sheep? Maybe it is God's plan for ALL humans to love each other EQUALLY! Who are you to DEFINE GOD'S PLAN?!?! You think by name-calling and threatening a life of damnation is the BEST way to "spread god's word?" If so, then maybe it is YOU that did not grow up in a "proper Christian family." You claim that we are "brain-washed" and "ignorant" but I believe in the CONSTITUTION and HUMAN RIGHTS! Not some fictional stories of a man with "super powers."

my only point in all this is believe what you believe but if homosexuality is a sin and its wrong what about all the other stuff God tells us not to do that we do! Lie, cheat, steal, want for wordly posessions, we put more value on monetary items than the lives of our fellow men! So if we are going to judge homosexuality as a sin and condem others for it shouldn't we do the same to ourselves for the sins we commit daily as well???

Posted by: anonymous Location: central texas on Jun 17, 2008 at 03:48 PM
there are two anonymous people posting here. for goodness sake, please don't confuse me with the narrow minded, holier than thou one....Krystal, I like your style.

A lot of these posters scare the hell outta me. The fact that they're probably voting and reproducing is disturbing. If Heaven is gonna be full of that kind of person, then send me to a Mariott Inn for eternity. One with an indoor pool and a nice happy hour.

I use MORAL in a different context apparently than most "anonymous" people that judge my comments here(speaking of hypocritical). My morals are not based on religion. HOMOSEXUAL IS NOT THE WAY NATURE INTENDED! Would the human race exist without a male fertilizing a female egg through intercourse? Would any of us be here if the Neanderthals were gay/lesbian?

Posted by: Fran Location: W. Texas on Jun 17, 2008 at 02:54 PM
I know it's wrong and YOU know it's wrong. The BIBLE says it's wrong! I am not judging, just stating the facts!!!

Posted by: Lisa Location: Waco on Jun 17, 2008 at 02:47 PM
For Krystal, I'm not judging anyone who is gay and I don't hate anyone that is gay. That's their choice to be gay or any other way they want to be. There are a lot of nice gay people and yes, Americans have mistreated them. I had a cousin who was gay. I didn't hate him for being gay. He also died of AIDS. I'm just stating my opinion as in Leviticus 18:22 "Homosexuality is absolutely forbidden, for it is an enormous sin." I don't care what people think about my opinion as it's time for Christians to start speaking up in America as our country was founded by forefathers that were CHRISTIANS and they believed in the bible. It's our duty as Christians to spread the word of God. I was simply doing so and not judging anyone by any means. I'm sorry you took it that way. I agree with "Earthquake needed" only on the part that God did not create Adam and Steve not that an Earthquake needs to destroy California or anyone in it. My mistake to not have made that clearer.

Posted by: Krystal on Jun 17, 2008 at 02:35 PM
I will pray for you as well anonymous.

krystal, your parents did a very good job in raising you; they should be proud of the daughter they created. I applaud them and i applaud you. your love for your parents and your intelligence is a testament to what loving parents can do. There will always be ignorance and fear in this world; don't let it taint you or the love your family has created. I would be proud to have your family at my table at Sunday dinner....after church.

Jake, why don't you explain to us how this lifestyle is less violent and a more productive socially? I know gays that fight with each other all the time. This universe survives on the natural reproduction of both human and animals. The things you describe that are going on in our country is because of liberal ignorance of people like you who's only contributions to society is your yelling protests to legalize gay marriage, legalize abortions, stopping the death penalty, and yelling anti-war propaganda that will eventually get us all killed from a terrorist takeover. And if terrorist muslims do take over this country, homosexuals will be the first to go. Remember, The Iranian president says that "phenomenon" does't exist in Islam. ( only because they forbid it ). I challenge you to GET REAL and stop acting like all gays are perfect and all straights are criminals!

krystal you are the one thats ignorant. you have been brain washed by gay propaganda. if you were raised in a proper christian family with good moral family values you would know better. and i would rather be "white trash american" then a far left america hater like you. i bet you even vote for that muslim osama bin barack or whatever. people like you are bringing rapture on us closer and closer each day. if i were you id change my way of thinking so i could get in the gates of heaven and be in the arms of our dear lord jesus. i pray for you krystal.

People want to talk about hetrosexual marriages not working out? Let us not forget how many hetrosexual marriages have been ruined from a spouse who left for or had an affair with a same sex partner. The hypocrisy here from the pro gay marriage people is just that "hypocrisy". Kystal's situation is a perfect example of father leaving mother for another man. God gave us all the will to choose right from wrong. If I consider this wrong, and I do just like the polygamous lifestyle...that is my right. It's also my right to not have it shoved down my throat that I must accept it. Thanks all the pro gays on here for showing us that "hate" is everywhere.

Posted by: jake Location: tex on Jun 17, 2008 at 01:02 PM
Can one of you brilliant bible thumping morons explain just how a gay marriage in any way is a threat to your marriage! Maybe its because they are more committed, involve more love and support, last longer, less domestic violence, any children involved are actually wanted and loved, and as a couple they are more productive socially than you and yours could ever hope to be! Explain to me why in a society where there are horrible things going on(crime, bogus war, health care crisis, gas/food prices out of control) that you chose to attack LOVE! MY gaahhd how jealous can you be! Work on your own families before you try to "fix" others! Believe from what i see you will be busy quite awhile taking care of your own backyard! Ignorance one the cornerstones of our society and only YOU have the power to change that. I challenge you to get to know some gays and you wont have to look any further than your own families..believe me! You will be truly enlightened!

Posted by: Krystal on Jun 17, 2008 at 12:31 PM
Dont' feel sorry for me, I have had a better childhood and life than most kids these days, and I have had 4 parents who all love me and take care of me, I have had a good life, gay or straight parents. In fact I am proud to say that my dad is gay..I have learned to accept everyone for who they are and have learned that you love everyone no matter what sex, race, or sexual orientation they are. And are you calling all gay people "ungodly heathen pedophile perverts?" Why don't you type your name in that box next time, coward! Maybe we should save our time and words for the actual perverts and pedophiles out there that are daily hurting our children. You are a typical white trash american. You have all of these opinions and things to say but know nothing, you are ignorant. I am ashamed to be from the south if this is the way we are portrayed. I would join those states in a heartbeat. At least they know how to accept and love each other, which is what God wants of us.

I don't think all in California and NY should be condemned. But their Supreme Halls Of Justice might come crumbling down. I don't think God is Blessing America today.

Same sex marriages? Yes, it is wrong. But, I am not going to slam dunk people who believe in them. Furthermore, you "love the man, but hate the sin". Plus, I think Christians need to stand up for what we believe in. We didn't do it when prayer was taken out of our schools. You know where that got us...school shootings. I also am not saying that this world is going to the "dogs" because of same sex marriages. I just think that Christians should have the right to back up what God's Word tells us. However, I still love everyone, no matter what.

I am by no means pro-gay/lesbian. I believe in following the bible and trusting in the Lord. But, I feel if two men or two women want to marry one another then let them. They will be gay/lesbian with or without a wedding or others blessings. It is not our place to judge others for their actions, only to live life they way each person see's fit and face the reward and/or punishment at the end.

Posted by: anonymous Location: central texas on Jun 17, 2008 at 10:56 AM
God must be really happy with how the hetrosexual marriages are working out. Marriages for the most part have become an afterthought and something disposable; you don't like it....move on and do it again. I believe that marriage is a gift and should not be entered into lightly. It is a gift and it should be extended to those who have loved their partner; no matter the sex.

Posted by: mom67 Location: mexia on Jun 17, 2008 at 10:55 AM
The bible is clear on alot of things you're right, however homosexuality is wrong. You cannot pick and choose out of the Bible which verses to believe in. I do not believe in same sex marriages nor will I ever. I don't believe in alot of things considered politically correct. I however do not feel the need to judge others because I feel I am only responsible for me and to teach my children the right way. I teach my child to be tolerable of alot of things people do that I think are wrong, just like I am sure some people will argue about me being wrong in what I believe about homosexuals.

I have always been pro-choice regarding homosexuality. Each of us make choices everyday that are our own and that is what shapes and molds us into who we are. However, I believe that gay marriages is taking it one step too far. Marriage was created by the Lord, and he is a witness to marriages. I do not believe that the Lord will be a witness to these gay marriages and honor them, therefore since marriages are exactly that, they become null and void. If it makes a person feel better to have a piece of paper that claims marriage...enjoy your piece of paper.

no one is judging anyone. some people just know what 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 says. that's all. i love all people. i love smokers but i don't like the smoking. same thing applies here. i love my children, but i still have to correct them when they are breaking the rules. what is so hard to understand about that? a three year old gets that concept. we, the world, have been breaking God's rules forever. in God's eyes all sin is the same. stealing a paper clip just as stealing a million dollars. all the same. sin is sin. God just wants the best for us as he has established just as we want what is best for our children as we try to establish in our homes, but when they grow up they choose things we do not approve of. We do the same to God. However, God's punishment is greater than ours. That is the scary part. Oh well. everyone has their own choices to make and we all have to give an account to the Allmighty one day soon. I can only guard my own life and try to live right for Him.

Posted by: Krystal on Jun 17, 2008 at 10:23 AM
Thank you anonymous, i completely agree with you, love is love...just let it be. There are other issues in this country that we need to worry about besides "Adam and Steve" getting married, leave it alone.

Posted by: anonymous Location: central texas on Jun 17, 2008 at 10:15 AM
the Bible is also clear on judging others, divorce, a woman's role, care of elderly. we are instead a nation of divorce, abuse of elderly and children, gender/sexual inequality, nursing homes. Wishing for a horrible event to happen in California is just plain evil/wishing or waiting with hope is the same. I dislike ignorance but i don't hate others or poke at their differences.what is wrong is ignorance/hate/inequality/failing to love. I judge people by their hearts.

Posted by: Kris Location: Waco on Jun 17, 2008 at 09:46 AM

The bigotry and self serving holier than thou attitude is alive and well in central texas. The moral fabric? if others were to look on this board they would see a "moral fabric" full of hate, judgement, and hopes of death for others different from you. If God does judge by the basis of who and what you are....some of you are in trouble. if you want to judge look at yourself first. love is love and you can't define it. how about showing that christian attitude and looking at others as your brother and sisters? what happened to open arms and love?

Posted by: Krystal on Jun 17, 2008 at 09:20 AM
Having a homosexual father I think it's great that they are finally letting people show their love for one another by getting married. They too should have the right to be with someone they love just like everyone else in this country. There are gay couples in this country that have been together longer than most married couples. Maybe we should look at all of the straight couples in this country, they're the ones making the sanctity of marriage look bad. Oh and for Lisa...Matt. 7:1 "Do not judge, or you too will be judged." That's all I have to say to you.

Posted by: Me on Jun 17, 2008 at 09:09 AM
WOW how can so many people claim to be christian but look at all the judging. I do believe it does say something in the bible about not JUDGING others...The moral fabric of this country started unraveling way before gay marriage. And no I am not gay. It is what it is and you cannot change it obviously with a vote or anything so I guess as long as your not being homosexual that you can all get into heaven.

The people of Cal. voted against this and the court over ruled the peoples vote. Since when does the courts have more power than the people? This is a case of the courts over stepping their power. But guess what folks? Coming to your city soon. The courts will now make every state recognize these farse marriages and you will be FORCED to accept it. :(

Ok ... now it's time for the grand-daddy earthquake to take California off the map. This is just plane sick!
