BELTON (March 27, 2013)—A Mississippi man was being held Wednesday in the Bell County jail after he was arrested Tuesday on a warrant charging murder.
Devontae Montgomery, 20, was listed on the Bell County Jail log as in custody on the warrant but had not yet had a bond set.
Warren County Mississippi Sheriff Martin Pace told News 10 Montgomery was the fifth suspect in a March 15 shooting that left a 17-year-old Mississippi teenager dead.
The other four suspects already were in custody in Mississippi.
Pace said deputies were sent at about midnight March 15 to an address just outside Vicksburg, where a caller had reported a shooting.
Deputies were able to establish that two men were walking along a roadway when several other men in a dark colored pick up truck stopped alongside, yelled at the two man and began shooting.
The 17-year-old was struck in the head and died the next day at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Warren County investigators learned one of the men in the truck had relatives in the Killeen area and began working with the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force to try to locate him.
Marshals and Bell County deputies located the suspect at a residence in Killeen at about noon Tuesday and arrested him.
Pace said Mississippi authorities would begin extradition proceeding immediately.
