FORT HOOD (April 15, 2013)--Lt. Gen. Mark Milley, III Corps and Fort Hood Commander, deployed to Afghanistan early Monday morning.
The mission he and 160 soldiers from the III Corps Headquarters will focus on includes helping in the draw-down of American troops in the country by 2014.
After addressing the soldiers before getting on the plane Milley said some of the challenges they face include building the confidence of the Afghan security forces and securing the country's election next April.
"It will let the Taliban and all the enemy forces and the insurgent forces there know for certain that they can never ever seize power and that the government of Afghanistan is a legitimate authority," Milley said.
This is is Milley's fifth deployment since Sept. 11, 2001.
This deployment will last 12 months.
