Late Night Highway Crash Closes Interstate 35 For Hours

ABBOTT (April 24, 2013)—A multiple-vehicle crash that involved at least two 18-wheelers left Interstate 35 closed in both directions for hours from late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Traffic was flowing at a normal pace by about 2 a.m.

A Department of Public Safety communications officer at the Waco office said at least two truck tractor, semi-trailers were involved along with several other vehicles.

No one was reported injured.

The 10 p.m. Tuesday crash resulted in fuel tanks being ruptured on both 18-wheelers and diesel fuel was spilled across all six lanes of the highway near mile marker 358.

An environmental company was called to clean up the spill and that took more than four hours, the dispatcher said.

Traffic had to be diverted onto access roads but several drivers who were already past available exits had to wait for clean up before they could proceed, he said.
