(June 18, 2008)--A 4-month-old Bryan boy was in the hospital Wednesday after he was mauled by a dog Tuesday night at a house in Bryan.
The baby’s mother, a 26-year-old Waco woman, left the infant on the sofa and went to take a shower.
When she returned, she found the dog dragging her son by the head.
It's unclear whether anyone else was home at the time.
Bryan police say the child was taken to St. Joseph's Regional Health Center in Bryan with multiple injuries.
KBTX TV reports that the infant may have since been transferred to another facility.
Information about his condition wasn’t available Wednesday evening.
The dog's owner, Robert Thompson, surrendered the dog to Bryan animal control officers.
No charges have been filed, but police continue to investigate.

First to Harry, I have a pittbull, this is the third I have owned. The dog has a bad reputation because of the owners they fall into. There are no bad dogs, just bad owners. I couldn't ask for a better dog. As for the article, the breed of the dog was never mentioned so people automaticly asume pitt or other breed like that. I thank the people who didn't jump to conclusions and give those dogs a chance. Secondly, I agree with Tony, you get a lot of things done when a child is asleep, especially an infant. If this person owned a dog, obviously they would know if the child would be in harm or not. I feel a further investagation should be done.

I'm not defending the actions of the parent or the dog but just think for a second...(If you don't have children, then you have NO idea of what I'm about to talk about.) Suppose the media left out the part about the infant being ASLEEP on the couch. If you have or had infants, you know that you can get a lot of stuff accomplished when they're asleep, including a shower. Also, if this dog had shown no threat to the child before the mother left the infant on the couch, do we know that she's a moron because she didn't look at the dog sitting, possibly sleeping there calm and cool and think, "If I leave my child on the couch, this dog will grab my child by the head for no reason?". As is usually the case around here, people are so quick to judge.

Why on earth is a parent not only leaving an infant on a couch alone, but also alone with a dog? It makes no sense at all! An infant should never be left unsupervised - nevermind unsupervised with a dog (of any type). This is just heartbreaking. Don't blame the dog here - they aren't babysitters. Blame the negligent parent. I think there should be charges in this case.
