Woman Jailed In Killing Of Toddler Is Pregnant

(June 20, 2008)—A Mexican woman accused of killing her 2-year-old son with a kick to the stomach is pregnant, according to authorities in McAllen, where she’s held in lieu of $1 million bond.

Maria Almaguer, 30, who’s living in McAllen on an expired visa, was arraigned Thursday on a murder charge.

Police spokesman Armando Contreras says she is believed to be about five months pregnant.

She's held in the Hidalgo County Jail.

According to court documents, Almaguer was alone with 2-year-old Isaias Alvarez on June 13, the day before police responded to a report that the child was not breathing.

The boy was pronounced dead at a hospital.

An autopsy showed his death was caused by blunt force trauma to his abdomen that lacerated his small intestine.

The woman should pay for the wrong she did. This is off subject, but Mexican's are Americans too. In case you forgot, we live in North America, They live in Central America, and others live in South America. If you live in the USA or Canada, you are North American, Mexicans are Central Americans, and Brazilians are South Americans, etc., etc., etc. The only reason US Americans aren't called by the country's origin is because we are the "melting pot", and we don't really have one. So, we settled on States: Texan (or Texian), Oklahoman, Louisianan, New Mexican, etc., etc., etc. US Americans have never had exclusive right to the term "American", they just assumed we did. Confusing ain't it.

So what if she's pregnant!!! Why are they making such a fuss over the fact that she's pregnant???Plenty of women give birth in jail and prison...CPS takes the child...the mother doesn't get to keep the newborn...THANK GOD!!! Plus, she's an illegal...trial, sentencing, prison, then deport her back to Mexico...or...if we had a deal with Mexico about their citizens that commit crimes in the USA...we could ship her there and have them pay for all the trial, birth care, prison, etc...but they'd probably just turn her loose to come back across the border!!!

How horrible. When she gives birth to this baby it should be taken away IMMEDIATELY. The justice system really needs to step in on this one and take charge in order to save a life. She should have no rights to this child. God Bless the little boy's soul and may he rest peacefully in Heaven.

Amanda, people from Mexico are called Mexicans. People from America are called Americans, people from Aregntina are called Argentinians. Do you see a pattern here? Black and white are colors. Mexican and American are nationalities. I really dont see where the confusion lies. She killed the baby in Texas she should be executed here after her child is born. If she goes back to Mexico she will be back across the border within the week.

It's not just Mexican Illegals that kill their children. Read the stories, listen to the news. Don't forget the VanHardenberg/Shields case where he injured the child and she didn't go for help and the child died...they went to McDonald's instead.

Leave her in jail until baby is born, send her back to Mexico, and let someone who desperately wants a child adopt the baby.....oh, before you send mom back to the Mexican jail (we shouldnt have to pay for her since she is illegal) TIE HER TUBES!!! I believe that anyone that abuses or kills a child should be sterilized!!

Amanda, the article isn't referring to the color of skin, but the nationality. It states Mexican woman because she is a Mexican national. If she was Australian it would have said Australian woman. It is the exact same thing as writing "a central Texas woman." It isn't referring to skin color, but residence.

"A Mexican woman", im sorry to say, but that was so unneccary!..i dont see an article saying a "white lady" or "black lady"!.. Me just writting this does not mean that i agree on what this lady did!..She did wrong and deserves the max punishment!!

If she is in fact guilty of this charge then i guess the state has a duty to care for her and her unborn child until she gives birth. Afterwards the child should be turned over to relatives, she should be given the death penalty, and afterwards deport her remains back to Mexico for proper disposal. That's all she deserves. Pitiful.

Put her in jail when she has the baby take the baby away from her and have her sterilized so this can not happen agn instead for putting her in prison and us paying for it lets just deport her back acorss the border where she belongs and let the mexicans take care of her.
