(June 22, 2008)--The conservative East Texas bean-processing town of Mineola has more than 30 churches for its 5,100 residents, so it's no surprise that the town was rocked when authorities alleged that children as young as age 5 were forced into performing sex shows at a former Mineola daycare center.
In all, six adults were charged in connection with the case, one of them a parent of the three siblings.
Two of the defendants have already been convicted already and sentenced to life in prison and jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday in the third case to go to trial in nearby Tyler.
Patrick Kelly is charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child, tampering with physical evidence and engaging in organized criminal activity.
His attorney says his client is innocent and may not be able to get a fair trial in neighboring Smith County.
Meanwhile, Kelly's attorney has asked for postponement of the trial in light of allegations against prosecution witness John Cantrell.
Permanent custody of three victimized siblings were given to Cantrell and his wife, but last week, prosecutors in California charged him with sexually assaulting a child in the state 18 years ago.
Margie Cantrell said her husband is innocent.
