Hurricane Evacuation Task Force Holds Final Hearing
A task force charged with ironing out the kinks in the state’s evacuation plans met for the final time Tuesday in Beaumont.

Jefferson County Judge Carl Griffith outlined the trouble he had finding ambulances to evacuate hospitals after Hurricane Rita during the final meeting of a state task force Tuesday in Beaumont.
Griffith told the task force that he had to beg the White House to allow a military airlift of vulnerable residents.
Task force members convened in Beaumont for their final meeting on a review of Texas emergency evacuation plans.
The recommendations will go to Governor Rick Perry.
Hurricane Rita made landfall Sept. 24 near Sabine Pass just weeks after Katrina destroyed parts of Louisiana and Mississippi.
Some southeast Texas residents of are still living in tents.
Kathy Rodgers is trauma coordinator at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
Rodgers suggested placing armbands on patients with contact information for the originating hospital.
