MOUNT CALM (June 7, 2013)—One man died and a second was seriously injured in a head-on crash early Friday morning in Mount Calm.

The accident happened at about 6:15 a.m. Friday on State Highway 31 near Post Office Street.

Douglas Wayne Stuckley, 37, of Hubbard, died in the crash, a Department of Public Safety trooper at the scene said

Zachary Nichols, 29, of Tyler was flown to Scott & White Hospital, in Temple, with what the trooper called serious injuries.

A preliminary investigation showed that Stuckley was driving west on the highway in a Chevrolet Blazer and Nichols was eastbound in a Toyota pickup truck when one of the vehicles crossed the center line, DPS Trooper D.L. Wilson said.

Stuckley died at the scene.

Westbound traffic lanes on Highway 31 remained closed while the trooper investigated the accident.

Eastbound lanes were open but traffic was moving slowly.
