KILLEEN (July 5, 2013)—A Killeen man was arrested early Friday morning after he held officers at bay for almost three hours following a domestic disturbance.

Officers were called at about 1:45 a.m. to a residence in the 3200 block of Hereford Lane after a caller reported a domestic disturbance, Killeen police spokeswoman Ofelia Miramontez said.

When officers arrived they were told a man was holding a woman inside an apartment against her will and police could hear a man and woman inside the residence arguing.

Officers also believed there was a weapon involved.

When police attempted to speak with the people inside the apartment, they refused to answer the door, Miramontez said.

When it became apparent the suspects were not going to speak with police, the Killeen Police Tactical Response Unit was called to the scene.

Miramontez said an investigation showed the man and woman began arguing while outside the apartment and the fight escalated when they went inside.

Witnesses told police at the scene the woman began screaming for help because the man would not let her leave.

Hostage negotiators finally were able to make contact with the man and began trying to talk him into surrendering.

After some negotiation both the man and the woman agreed to come outside, where the 41-year-old man was taken into custody and the 27-year-old woman released, Miramontez said.

The man was taken to the Killeen City Jail where charges against him were pending later Friday morning.
