AUSTIN (July 24, 2013)--An expert is in the process of removing about 30,000 bees from a large oak tree along a highway in Austin.
The bees will be taken to farm near Robinson outside of Waco.
The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority hired Randy Oakley to trap and move the bees from the tree near U.S. 183 in Austin.
Oakley is using a decoy hive to attract the bees.
He’ll be paid about $1,300 for the relocation.
Oakley says more people are opting for removal and relocation of bees instead of extermination because of environmental concerns.
Bees help pollinate crops and their honey can be sold.
