KILLEEN (August 14, 2013)—Killeen firefighters Wednesday morning were battling a tanker truck fire on State Highway 195 just south of Walnut Drive.
Fire units were called just after 7 a.m. when a caller reported a tanker truck was on fire.
Crews at the scene were able to douse the flames and quickly discovered the truck was loaded with 3,600 gallons of liquid asphalt.
A HazMat crew from Waco had been called to the scene to deal with any spillage, Smith said
Killeen police spokeswoman Carroll Smith said 195 was closed to traffic while fire crews dealt with the blaze, but traffic had returned to normal by 8:45 a.m.
Smith said crews from the Texas Department of Transportation had taken over the scene while crews cleaned up the debris.
