MCGREGOR (August 15, 2013)—McGregor police were investigating Thursday morning after a pregnant convenience store clerk was robbed by an armed man.

Officers were sent just about 6:25 a.m. Thursday to the Corner Store, at West 6th St. and S. Main St., in McGregor, following a desperate call from the store clerk.

Police rushed to the scene and found the clerk, who is pregnant, and was having difficulty breathing.

McGregor police Chief Steve Foster said officers summoned an ambulance to attend to the clerk, who was taken to a Waco hospital as a precaution because she is 7-months pregnant.

Before the clerk was taken away she told officers a black man walked into the store, walked around the counter and began taking money from the cash box.

The robber was armed with a handgun, wore a black hooded sweatshirt and a black mask, stood 5-feet, 8-inches to 5-feet, 9-inches tall and weighed between 160 and 170 pounds, the clerk said.

Another man who was in the adjacent laundromat told police he witnessed the robbery and was providing additional details to investigators.

The robber left the store on foot and was last seen walking east on 6th St., Foster said.
