(June 27, 2008)—A Central Texas woman wanted in connection with the injury of an infant for whom she was caring turned herself in to Brazos County authorities Friday.

Dana Rene Munyon, 45 of College Station, was arrested around 8:15 a.m. Friday.

A warrant for her arrest was issued Thursday, charging injury to a child.

The charge stems from an incident in April in which 1-year-old Alexis Verzal suffered retinal hemorrhaging and brain swelling consistent with Shaken Baby Syndrome while at a daycare.

The infant girl is now receiving care at a rehabilitation facility in Nebraska, which is where her family is originally from.

Her parents had worked for the Texas A&M University Athletic Department, but decided to make a permanent move back to Nebraska so Alexia can continue to receive treatment.

Munyon was free Friday afternoon on $25,000 bond.

KBTX-TV reported that the infant’s family issued a statement Friday after learning of the arrest.

"Our prayers are with the Munyon family,” the statement said.

“Our family's life has changed forever as a result of Alexis' injury and we are saddened today that another family will be impacted as well.

“Alexis continues to make great strides in rehabilitation. We thank communities in Texas, Nebraska, and all over the country for their thoughts and prayers, and know that Alexis would not have made the progress she has without them."
