(June 27, 2008)—Distribution and transmission company Oncor filed Friday for a 2.7 percent increase in residential electric delivery rates.
The increase would mean about $5.09 more a month for an average residential customer, Oncor said.
Electric providers typically pass delivery rates on to consumers, Oncor said.
Oncor, which hasn’t had a rate review since 2001, must receive Public Utility Commission approval a rate hike.
“Oncor understands that these are difficult economic times for all Texans,” said Bob Shapard, Chief Executive Officer of Oncor.
“We agreed to file this rate review as a part of our commitment to city and state leaders, and our filing reflects our current costs to provide electric delivery service.
“However, even with this increase, Oncor’s delivery charges will remain among the lowest in the state,” he said.
A decision on the increase probably won’t come until 2009, Oncor said, and if the increase is granted, it will be up to retail electric providers to decide whether to pass the cost on to consumers, Oncor said.
