FORT HOOD (September 4, 2013)--Fort Hood officials confirmed more details Wednesday about the shooting death of a retired soldier Sunday.

Sgt. Brett Marvin Wessel, 26, a 1st Cavalry Division soldier remained in custody Wednesday in the Bell County Jail facing an undetermined charge in connection with the weekend death of retired Army Sgt. Ryan F. Dickinson, 26, of Ronkonkoma, NY.

No bond has been set.

Chris Haug, public affairs officer for Fort Hood and III Corps, confirmed Wednesday Dickinson died of a gunshot wound.

Dickinson was killed early Sunday morning at West Fort Hood.

Christopher P. Grey, public affairs spokesman for the U.S. Army's Criminal Investigation Command, said Wednesday Fort Hood officials ordered an autopsy.

Haug said Dickinson died at a residence on West Fort Hood after he and another man became involved in an altercation during a gathering at the residence.

Grey said neither Wessel nor Dickinson lived at the residence.

Haug said lawyers with the 1st Cav Judge Advocate General's office still are processing evidence in the case and will determine a formal charge once that investigation is finished.

Wessel is assigned to 1st Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division.
