HILL COUNTY (September 3, 2013)--A 19-year-old Austin woman died and two other teenagers were injured early Tuesday morning when the SUV in which they were riding overturned on a rural Hill County road.
Department of Public Safety Trooper D.L. Wilson said Katie Blindert, 19, a student, died at around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday when the 1998 Ford Explorer in which she was riding crashed on Hill County Road 3124 about half-a-mile south of HCR 3125 after the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The SUV rolled, ejected Blindert, and then rolled over her.
Lane Scott, 18, a passenger in the SUV, was flown to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center, in Waco, where he remained in critical condition Tuesday afternoon.
The driver, Victoria Mitchell, 18, of Leander, was taken by ambulance to Hillcrest where she was listed in stable condition Tuesday afternoon.
None of the three was wearing a seat belt, the investigating trooper reported.
Hill County Justice of the Peace Brad Henley pronounced Blindert dead at the scene and ordered her body taken to Marshall and Marshall Funeral Home, in Hillsboro.
