BELLMEAD (September 4, 2013)--The 2-year-old son of a volunteer firefighter drowned Tuesday night after climbing out of bed, slipping out of the house and returning to the backyard pool where he and other family members had been swimming earlier in the day, police said Wednesday.
Police identified the victim as Henry Lord, the son of Lacy Lakeview Volunteer Firefighter Timothy Lord.
The toddler, who had been tucked into bed as dinner was being prepared, was found unresponsive in the pool at around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday after family members discovered he wasn’t asleep in his room.
The boy was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead by McLennan County Justice of the Peace Pete Peterson.
No autopsy was ordered.
Police Wednesday described the drowning as “a sad and tragic event.”
