WACO (September 18, 2013)—Two female correctional officers at the Jack Harwell Detention Center have been arrested on complaints stemming from allegations they had improper sexual relationships with inmates.
Regina Antoinette Edwards, 44, posted a $5,000 bond Tuesday and was released after she was charged with participating in an improper sexual act with a person in custody.
Dorothy Pennington, 22, turned herself into deputies at the sheriff’s office Wednesday morning and was being booked into the county jail.
McLennan County Sheriff’s deputies went to the Harwell center on Tuesday and arrested Edwards while she was on the job, sheriff’s Capt. Bubba Collier said.
The complaint signed naming Edwards says investigators were able to trace phone calls between her and an inmate during which sexual acts were discussed.
As part of the investigation officers interviewed the inmate who told them he had had sexual contact with a female guard four times.
The incidents, the complaint said, happened over a period of time between 2011 and 2013.
The complaint naming Pennington was not yet available Wednesday morning.
