(June 30, 2008)—Residents of Hill County have raised enough money to open a shelter for pets abandoned in rural areas.

Right now those who find the abandoned cats and dogs are forced either to leave the animals to fend for themselves or to drive to communities that do have shelters, and then pay fees in order to drop off the strays.

Hill County Paw Pals is trying to remedy that problem.

The group is now working with county officials and leaders in Hillsboro and Whitney to come up with money to operate the facility.

I was so pleased to see a story about this important cause concerning stray animals in Hill County. I personally have rescued 5 dogs and found homes for them. It is a huge problem. There is barely a day that goes by that I do not see one. The Hill County officials need to wake up! Thank you for your coverage.
