FBI Chief Unhappy With Supreme Court Ruling Save Email Print

FBI Director Robert Mueller (Getty Images)

A | A | A

(July 1, 2008)—The director of the FBI is not happy with the Supreme Court's recent handgun ruling.

Robert Mueller says he tends to believe that "weapons harm people, and more often than not they harm the people carrying them."

Mueller said the high court's decision, which threw out a handgun ban in Washington, D.C., "does throw a lot of things up in the air."

Mueller said communities will now have to decide their own licensing programs.

Mueller was speaking at a convention of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators in Hartford, Connecticut.

He says with his grandchildren going to college, he hopes "those campuses will be weapons-free."

Yep, those campuses WILL be gun free... from legal gun owners, not criminals.

If Mr. Mueller believes, "weapons harm people, and more often than not they harm the people carrying them," then we should show our support for law enforcement by advocating a ban on the police possession of weapons. Oh and El Kablooey, your comment is inviting bullet control. Would be better to say: guns don't kill people, the government does.

For the people that keep saying that guns harm people; You are morons!!!!!! No matter what your stance on the 2nd amendmant is, an inanimate object is not, I repeat not capable of harming someone. People kill people and have been doing so since, well i guess since man could get his hands around another mans throat.

Typical response by a government bureaucrat, expressing dismay at the ability of citizens to carry the objects that keep his compatriots' coercive aspirations in check. Irrespective of the courts ruling, the pendulum is still swinging in the direction of tyranny-not liberty.

Isn't it just a little Strange, that when the issue of GUNS comes up when dealing with ANY Government Official, that They feel that Civilians should NOT have Guns, While they them selves would NEVER Relinquish their right to carry a Gun? I mean, All the Government Agencies want to keep their Hand guns and Machine guns, but they all feel that THEY ALONE should be the only ones that have them. It's a DOUBLE STANDARD, the FBI, or any gun carrying Government agency, feels that they have MORE RIGHTS then the Citizen who should by all scopes of things, have MORE Rights then ANY Government Agency to own a Gun, or any form of weapon they choose, even if it is a full automatic weapon. The Government IS THE SERVANT, where the Citizens ARE THE MASTERS. It seems the Servants have taken the Masters House by Force, and then Complain about the Master trying to regain his status as master. This issue goes to a much deeper level then just GUNS

Guns don't kill people...bullets kill people. I've owned guns most of my life and I have never had to use one in self defense. But I have that last resort option. For now. Another blunder by our Dunderhead-in-Chief.

Everybody in the US needs to understand that weapons don't kill people. PEOPLE kill people. It is the sick minds that should be removed not our weapons. I can't believe that high level government officials set around worrying about weapons and gun control when there are so many rapist, child molesters, murderers, and every one else that prays on the innocent.

The Constitution, which the Director presumably swore an Oath to uphold, actually wasn't crafted with the government's Pursuit of Happiness at the top of the list. He should either put on his big girl panties and deal with it or resign to make way for a true public servant. What ever happened to the concept of the government officals upholding Liberty?

Mueller is a gun-fearing sissy! He wants all of his agents to be armed to the teeth, but he wants the general public to be totally defenseless. Nice pick for the head of the FBI, Mr. President! Why did you pick this guy, was Pee-Wee Herman too busy to take the job???

well looks he's one of those government men who thinks that law biding people needs to be helpless and the crook to be arm. lawbying people will follow the law to protect themself while the crook dont care how they get a gun. and now finaily we've got the big boys in the court who are protecting for us once. now they dont like it, the sorry a...hole gun-control who must not know what it like to lose someone to a armed crook with no means to protect themself.

I do not own a gun but am considering taking the courses offered. Each and everyday all you read and hear about are thugs out there who steal, kill and destroy people's lives. I don't intend to be a statistic as the odds are more in their favor if someone breaks into your home and they have a gun but you don't. The chances are if someone is brave enough to break in knowing someone is inside, they are going to kill you so at least you have a chance to save your life and your loved ones. People are getting so desperate (guess it is drugs)making them wild and crazy but whatever it is, I won't just allow anyone to do what they want. I am a woman and there are some people who don't value another's life or how their actions will affect others. I love my family enough to protect them. I do hate guns but when it comes to me or them, I choose me. Mueller's comments might work 20 yrs ago but just read what is happening in the US everyday and I don't think we have a choice.

Mueller's comments are scary coming from the head of the FBI that took an oath to "...support and defend the constitution of the United States..." If, as Mueller said, "weapons harm people, and more often than not they harm the people carrying them" , then he and his agents need to turn in their weapons.

Another 'Bush-ite' that needs to be replaced.

Posted by: LN Location: Robinson on Jul 1, 2008 at 08:18 AM
This is just a typical administrative response from a guy who happens to be a cop. Not a response from a guy who IS a cop. The suggestion that he makes that gun owners are more likely to be hurt than the criminal tells me he needs to go back and take a look at the FBI's own stats because he is just flat out wrong. He is quoting the results of a gun ban group "survey" that was done decades ago with the questions skewed to get the result they wanted. What a hack.

Posted by: Ross Location: Waco, Texas on Jul 1, 2008 at 06:58 AM
OK, Director Mueller. If you really believe that weapons harm people and more often than not harm the people carrying them, then you need to disarm all your agents immediately. If private citizens don't have the right to gun ownership, then neither do your agents. Otherwise, you're a typical command-level law enforcement hypocrite.

Posted by: William Location: Salado on Jul 1, 2008 at 05:30 AM
Mr. Mueller needs to go back to his office and get out that old copy of the constitution and start reading, the courts said it and that is final. I want to be able to protect myself, and right now is the perfect time, with people stealing everything just to get gas and food. If you didn't work for it, don't come looking for it at my place, because I have my guns and I am willing to use them.
