(July 1, 2008)--Nebraska Beef Limited is recalling nearly 532,000 pounds of ground beef produced in the past two months after officials say the meat was linked to an outbreak of E. coli illnesses.
Much of the beef that Nebraska Beef is recalling was sold to wholesalers or other processing companies in Texas, Nebraska, Colorado, Illinois, Michigan, New York and Pennsylvania.
The federal government says the Kroger grocery chain sold some of the Omaha-based company’s beef.
Investigators traced the meat to Nebraska Beef after 38 people in Ohio and Michigan became ill.
Kroger had already recalled beef it sold in those states.
The recall involves beef produced on five different dates between May 16 and June 24.
Nineteen people have been hospitalized since the first case of E. coli linked to the beef was identified on May 30.
