SCHWERTNER (October 31, 2013) Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies were searching for a man who robbed the Schwertner State Bank after he locked the employees in the bank’s vault.
At about 11 a.m. Thursday a man walked into the bank in downtown Schwertner, corralled the employees in the bank’s vault and closed the door, Williamson County Sheriff’s Capt. Fred Thomas said.
While the employees were locked in the armed man rifled through teller’s drawers, filling a bag with cash.
The robber left the building with a bag full of money but because the employees were held in the vault and could not see outside, Thomas said, deputies were unsure whether he fled on foot or in a vehicle.
Employees described the man as armed with a handgun, wearing a Halloween mask, a hat, a denim shirt and jeans and his hands were covered with gloves, Thomas said.
Thomas said no one was injured.
