RIESEL (November 13, 2013) Firefighters were battling a house fire Wednesday morning near Riesel that had destroyed a rural home.
Riesel police Chief Danny Krumnow said when he arrived at the scene he encountered a man who had been inside the home when the fire started but was able to escape without injury.
The fire was reported just after 7:20 a.m. Wednesday at 2949 Rice Road, a few miles east of Riesel.
Firefighters from Riesel and Mart and EMS crews from Waco were on the scene.
The first unit at the fire reported the single-story frame home was engulfed in flames.
Within a few minutes most of the house had collapsed and firefighters were left to try to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjacent structures.
