Homes Threatened By Major Grassfire Save Email Print

A | A | A

(July 5, 2008)- SA major grassfire reportedly started in a camp site near Stillhouse Hollow Lake threatened several homes Saturday afternoon.

The grassfire started sometime about 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon in a low-lying area between Lakecliff Drive and Pawnee Drive near Stillhouse Hollow Lake.

Crews from Harker Heights, Killeen, Copperas Cove, Belton, Fort Hood and the Corps of Engineers are on the scene while at least two helicopters are in the air helping with efforts to put out the fire.

Firefighters say winds blew that fire up hill toward nearyby homes and old driftwood in the area is fueling the fire, making it harder for firefighters to battle the fire.

In Waco, some buildings in the downtown are without power after a fire somehow started at the Oncor Electric Delivery East Waco Substation.

Firefighters say most of the fire is contained.

I would have liked to have had some more coverage by the local news. We are very close and not very mobile.

My father lives right there and he says the smoke is very thick. They thought they had it under control but just found out that it is still going!

We can see the fire from our home, there are two helicopters that are dumping water on the fire. Pretty intense for the people closer that we are!
