(Feb. 25, 2006)—Idaho may move inmates now housed in Minnesota to
Texas.
The inmates have been held at a private prison in Minnesota since last year, but corrections officials from both states say Minnesota wants the beds for its own growing prison population.
The Idaho Department of Correction is scrambling to find alternatives.
It's looking at facilities in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico, though no agreements have been reached yet.
Since October, about 300 Idaho prisoners have been housed at the Prairie Correctional Facility in Appleton, Minn. because Idaho ran out of space.
