WACO (January 8, 2014) Kevin Alan Shavers was held Wednesday in the McLennan County Jail facing a charge of robbery with bodily injury after his an arrest on a warrant in connection with a theft from a local Walmart.
Shavers, 27, was listed on the jail roster as awaiting formal arraignment and bond.
Shavers was arrested on a warrant issued after police detectives, with the help of the public, were able to identify him as a suspect in the December 11 theft of two Xboxes from the Walmart at 600 Hewitt Drive.
Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said police were called to the store at about 2 p.m. on that day after a loss prevention officer reported a man had fled the store with the games and during his escape one of the loss prevention officers was injured.
Swanton said the officer tried to stop the man and in the process fell to the floor.
It was not known how badly the officer was hurt.
Detectives from the Neighborhood Services unit posted a picture of the suspect on their Facebook page and within an hour had several tips from citizens who saw the picture.
“Citizens were very instrumental in making this arrest,” Swanton said.
