WACO (January 21, 2014) Waco police raided what officers called an “open-air” drug market Monday evening and recovered heroin, cocaine and prescription drugs.
Officers from the Street Crimes unit went at about 5:30 p.m. Monday to the 800 block of Harlem Street where they saw several people in the street conducting drug transactions, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.
Swanton said police have identified the area as a problem area for sales of narcotics in the past and when they approached on Monday the street was so crowded with pedestrians and vehicles it was impassable, Swanton said.
The group that was gathered there disbursed immediately as officers arrived, Swanton said and some of them went into a house at 813 Harlem.
Officers conducted a “knock and talk” exercise at that address and were able to recover 29 capsules of heroin, 2.6 grams of cocaine and several Hydrocodone tablets, Swanton said.
Officers also arrested Denard Deshawn Paul 24 and Terrell Eron Warner, 27.
Paul was listed on the McLennan County Jail log Tuesday as ordered held on bonds totaling $15,000, charged with failure to identify as a fugitive and possession of a dangerous drug, and without bond on a state parole violation.
Warner was ordered held on bonds totaling $502,000, charged with evading arrest on foot, evading arrest in a vehicle and continuous violence against family, jail records showed.
