(March 6, 2006)—Peace activist Cindy Sheehan, whose roadside vigil near the President’s Central Texas ranch last August attracted international attention, has been arrested again, this time in New York City.

Sheehan’s 24-year-old son Casey, a 1st Cavalry Division soldier, died in Iraq in 2004.

Sheehan was arrested along with three other women Monday after a news conference at United Nations headquarters, where Iraqi women described daily killings and ambulance bombings as part of a spiral of violence that keeps women in their homes.

Organizers who arranged the session with reporters and a march to the U.S. Mission to the UN say Sheehan was trying to deliver a petition demanding U.S. troop withdrawal and the removal of all foreign fighters.

Police say the women were arrested for criminal trespassing and resisting arrest.

Sheehan was arrested last year and ticketed for failing to clear a sidewalk during a demonstration in Washington, D.C. and in January was escorted in handcuffs from the U.S. House gallery for wearing a T-shirt bearing an anti-war message before President Bush arrived to deliver his State of the Union Address.

She was charged with demonstrating in the Capitol building, but the charge was later dropped.
