Cecil Howell, Jr. (Jail photo)
KILLEEN (February 13, 2014) Cecil Howell, Jr., 42, of Killeen, was named Wednesday in an indictment in connection with a January hammer attack on a woman and her young son.
Two separate indictments charge Howell with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury and injury to a child.
Both indictments are enhanced because the grand jury found Howell to be a repeat offender on both charges.
Howell was arrested January 15 after police were sent at about 1:40 a.m. to an address on W. Ave. C where a woman had called to report a disturbance.
When police arrived they found a woman and a young boy, both bleeding from the head.
The woman reported a man had struck her in the face with a hammer and then used the tool to hit her 9-year-old son.
Both the boy and his mother were taken by ambulance to a Killeen hospital for treatment.
Police later arrested Howell when they found him walking in 100 block of North College Avenue.
When he was arrested police reported he had blood on his clothing.
Howell remained in the Bell County Jail on Thursday where he was ordered held on bonds totaling $400,000, online jail records showed.
