Texas Gas Prices
Democrats Blame Gas Prices On Republicans Save Email Print

A | A | A

(July 12, 2008)--The Democrats used their weekly radio message to take aim at high gas prices and to blame current energy woes on Republicans.

Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen said Americans "are fed up every time they go to fill up."

He said taxpayers are demanding action from Washington, but that President Bush and the GOP respond with the "same old line" about the need for more oil drilling.

Van Hollen says Democrats support more drilling, but that oil companies aren't using the areas already opened to them.

He said the U.S. should focus on new energy policies that include alternatives to oil.

He's also urging the nation to tap into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

"America's rainy day is now,” he said.

Whether global warming exists or not (it does) its just plain wasteful and inefficient to keep doing business as usual and relying on oil for energy. It will eventually run out. Don't you care? Not wasting and being efficient are conservative values so the Rupublicans should be all over investing in alternative energy sources. For some reason they aren't. Hmmmm. I can't imagine why. Maybe its because big businesses and lobbyists won't let them. Oh perish the thought!

Frank in Kempner, I think T. Boone Picken's energy plan is something that could work but there are some problems with what he proposes, like filling the midwest with the 410 foot turbine wind farms. Yes, they can produce alot of energy but our farmers need midwest land for our corn and wheat production ...(a most). I've seen the wind turbine farms in Sweetwater. I could see them from 40 miles away with their 148 ft blades. When you get close, you think you're on another planet! But if we could find areas where they wouldn't be so unsightly and not take up agricultural land, I'm all for it. As far as the natural gas cars, that is something to look at for the future. Everyone can't afford to go out and buy an hybrid right now and how far would you have to drive just to find a natural gas station? But until then we need to be drilling our own oil as we work on alternitives for the future. If someone could figure how to build these wind turbines in the gulf, they'd be a multi billionair!

Frank from Kempner: What you said has quite a bit of merit. What we should be doing is exploration, drilling and production of OUR OWN oil. Exploration and implementation of alternative fuel sources, and not corn which is a major food source. Conservation of what fuel sources we do have. Nuclear, coal and wind energy to fuel our electrical needs. If we build a nuke plant and the plans are approved then that particular plant should be able to be built without all of the crap they have to go through. The same for a coal plant. A few refineries need to be built too. We have, in this country, plenty of oil to run it for a very long time. Especially if we begin to utilize other technologies for some of our vehicles. When we become energy independent we can then tell the other countries that are getting very wealthy from our purchases to go suck sand. Then we'll see the two bit dictators fall from power like the chumps they are.

Frank from Kempner hit the nail on the head. "Blame game" is all the politicians of today know. If a Republican said it was dark outside at 11:00 p.m. a Democrat would argue the point. This is the reason I don't have an ounce of trust for either party. This government will never operate for the good of all United States citizens until Independents control the House and the Senate. Sadly, I don't see that coming any day soon. Pitiful.

Let them drill wherever they want Democrats. You will do and say anything to get in that Whitehouse. Do you think Republicans are dumb? Who do you think you are kidding?

Everyone realizes, that our dollar is not worth what it use to be. One reason is that in a global economy that our "real" price for oil has risen. Both parties ignored protecting the value of the U.S. dollar. Both parties spend excessively through "earmarks" for pet projects in their home districts, bailout failing banks and speculators on poor business practices and give money away that the treasury does not have, like the tax rebates to name a few. As the real value of our dollar continues to go down, I think that the price of gas will continue to climb. Unfortunately, many Americans will not accept this. I support the T. Boone Picken's energy plan to get our country out of this energy stranglehold and so far I have not heard anyone from either party comment on it. I would like to see both parties quit the blame game and get into action to fix the situation. Americans want action, not more hot air.

The GOP controls a global enterprise??? This is proof that dimocrats should never be elected to anything.

I'm not a fan of the shiftless and spineless Democratic Congress, but the Bush Administration has tarnished the good name of America. He hasn't ruined our good name, because our forefathers had enough sense to build in protections against Bush and his kind. Thank God.

Most of the dumocrats don't have any facts straight and I'm not surprised. We need to drill here and now and especially in ANWAR and other areas whether land or offshore that have ENOUGH oil to make it worth the time and effort to drill there. ANWAR is estimated to have enough oil to last U.S. for 25 years and that's just in the very northern part of the refuge. Where in the heck does "wake up in Moody" get their facts?? 75% of Alaskans support the development of this region as do the 200 Inupiat Indians that live within ANWAR. Here's a simple analogy that dumocrats might understand...if you owned a supermarket, you would want to build it where you had enough customers. Same for oil companies, they want to drill where there's enough oil. Dependecy of foreign oil is now showing disastrous results. And the liberal dumocrats in DC think they can TAX us out of high gas prices?? What kind of idiot ideology is that?? When gas reaches $10.00 a gal. go cry to your Beloved Liberal Pelosi!!

Name calling is not leadership. The dems have sat by watching their base(High prices don't hurt rich republicians) thinking it is their ticket to the power seat and more lobbyiest money.Vote out all incumbents. If you don't like their replacements vote them ot after their 1st term.

Hey “wake up Moody”, if you pay attention to the news the Reagan administration did not have the solar panels removed, they were removed by the National Parks Service to repair a leaking roof, it was intended to reinstall but like most contracting it would cost more that it was worth. The under the Bush administration solar heating and electric producing panels have been installed. BTW, if you look at the Clinton record on alternative energy, they did not even consider anything about it until just before the end of the second term in office; Bush added the solar initiative almost immediately. Take a look and do your research first, The Bush ranch is one of the most energy efficient homes in the US where as Al Gore’s mansion has one of the worst. Don’t be such a Dumbocrat and get your facts straight before you talk.

One thing US has become a welfare state. Go down to SS office and see how many healthy under SS age people are in the waiting room to get their wellfare check. They are to fat and lazy to work so the goverment gives them a monthly check. Way to go democrats. The above is the only problem with SS.

TWO years ago the Democrats took control of the House and the Senate on the platform that they were going to be transparent, and they were going to reduce fuel prices, which at that time were about $2.30/gallon. Someone PLEASE tell me what the Dumbocrats have done to reduce fuel costs in the last TWO years and be more transparent? Nothing. They have blocked production of every single new oil field. They have blocked the building of new refineries for our fuel. They want to RAISE the taxes on fuel now, to drive the price down? How flippin' STUPID is that?!?! If the Dumbocrats want to know who is responsible for high fuel prices they need look no further than the mirror!

Posted by: TEXASLEGAL on Jul 13, 2008 at 08:09 PM
Bush Bush Bush. Wonder who the mexicrats will blame after Bush is gone? I can just imagine what this country will look like in two years after Dumbama and Pelosi have free reign. Think they will solve the gas problem? Don't count on it. Everyone had better get a tight grip it's gonna be a rough ride. Taxes and more regulation will be their way to solve it. Does a liberal bleeding heart ever bleed to death?

Posted by: frank Location: waco on Jul 13, 2008 at 05:56 PM
Joe, better suck it up because the Dems are going to sweep the elections, and I'm going to help. Bush and his cronies had six (big ol' 6) years of complete control of congress to pass all the bills Bushie wanted on oil drilling, but nothing happened. Now the poor old Reps are crying about those mean old Dems. Sorry Charlie...

Posted by: Jeremy Location: Gatesville on Jul 13, 2008 at 05:08 PM
I agree with Mac and Joe. I fail to see how so many people can point the blame towards the President instead of themselves. As for most of the other postings, You need to realize that many the things a President does do not take place in his term. They do what is best for America in the long run, that is their job. Bush is doing his job, regardless of how popular it makes or doesn't make him.

Posted by: Joe Location: waco on Jul 13, 2008 at 09:00 AM
Did anyone notice the gas prices stated going up after the Democrats Idiots took control of congress. All they do is blame it on Bush. Thjey don't have a glue.

Posted by: robert Location: meridian on Jul 12, 2008 at 11:34 PM
Did anyone notice early in the Bush presidency, the vice president had a secret meeting with top energy executives, then a few years later, oil and gasoline prices went up???Second point, the president has connections with Texas oil (what about Harkin sp) and Cheney with Haliburtin???By the way, is it the Republicans that say Democrats believe something to the effect throw money to social programs and that will help solve the problems to the poor or is it throw more oil which will solve the problems of high prices...Oil for blood???

It's going to take a decade before any new oil wells in Alaska, Florida, or California make any difference. Bush is exaggerating just like he did with Iraq; exaggerating or maybe lying. The big lie only works once. People are wondering if GWB can tell the truth or if he is capable of being truthful. I am very skeptical of anything Mr. Bush says.

Too bad Reagon took the solar panels off the White House and ended Carters energy policies. We could have cleaner, efficient heating and cooling and transportation. But greedy GOP, oil and coal companies and other corporate crooks ended all that, they see quicker $$ from war. They've got lots of leases in the Gulf they won't drill on, ANWAR has less than a year of oil and will take years to produce. Hear's a solution with NO taxes needed. Take trillions $ spent in Iraq war, invest in technology, repair infastructure, create US jobs. Bring our children home. Stop spreading DU all over the Mid East and beyond. The most moronic action-ever, was for this corrupt administration to bog our country down in an illegal, immoral war. The corporations and CEO's are getting richer and taking our tax money off shore and bankrupting our country. I would really rather my taxes get used to benefit the middle class in this country not the obscenely wealthy.Eight years of Rethugs is ENOUGH!

Another attack from the far left. Liberals once again out of touch but, don't worry hussien obama plans on turning the U.S. over to Iran for change.

Posted by: hadnuff on Jul 12, 2008 at 01:43 PM
"He said the U.S. should focus on new energy policies that include alternatives to oil." What a bunch of morons. What alternative is that? And let me guess, new energy policies would be more taxes right? He said taxpayers are demanding action from Washington, but that President Bush and the GOP respond with the "same old line" about the need for more oil drilling. Again your response in raise taxes. You can't tax your way to oil independence or prosperity ds. Government needs to get out of the way and let The oil companies do their jobs. The US has not seen a 'rainy' day yet. When Nobama, Natzi Pelosi, and warbucks Reid take control this country is in deep deep trouble. Oh and don't forget to make sure your children can all speak spanish, since immigrants will not have to learn english under hussien obama.
