President Bush Takes Iraq Message To Military Families

(March 22, 2006)—President Bush told an audience of about 2,500 military families and military personnel Wednesday in Wheeling, W. Va. that it’s his job to remember the lessons of 9/11.
To bolster public confidence in the Iraq war, Mr. Bush told the audience his most vital responsibility is to defend America, "stay on the offense" and "never relent."
It’s the fifth straight day Mr. Bush has talked about Iraq in the facing of sagging support at home for the war.
Mr. Bush told the families that it’s "time to get a government in place there" -- and that Iraqi forces need to start taking the lead in securing their country.

The violence, meanwhile, continued Wednesday in Iraq.
U.S. and Iraqi forces trapped insurgents during a two-hour gun battle at a police station south of Baghdad.
Four policemen were killed.
It comes a day after 100 masked gunmen stormed a jail near Iran and freed more than 30 prisoners.
Also Wednesday, gunmen on a country road outside Baqouba killed three civilians who were hauling bricks.
One officer was wounded by a roadside bomb that went off when a police patrol arrived to help
