GOLDTHWAITE (April 2, 2014) A fiery one-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning in Mills County claimed the life of a registered nurse who worked in the emergency room of Rollins Brook Community Hospital in Lampasas, authorities said.

Jana Schumate, 45, of Goldthwaite, died at the scene of the accident just before 3 a.m. Wednesday on FM 574, about two miles west of Goldthwaite, Department of Public Safety trooper Harpin Myers said.

She over-corrected on a curve and lost control of her vehicle, which overturned and caught on fire, Myers said.

Schumate, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected, Myers said.
